Terrence Sir (a.k.a. John Barclay)
TERRENCE SIR (John Barclay)
Nightmare Theater (Jan. 29, 1958-1958; KRON-TV; channel 4; San Francisco, California)
Voice actor, TV and radio producer John Barclay took over hosting Nightmare Theater as Terrence's father, Terrence Sir. It aired Wednesday nights at 10:35 pm. "To introduce Nightmare Theater on KRON in San Francisco, John Barclay enters as a two-faced monster from studio mummy's tomb wearing a grotesque mask on the back of his head and speaking in sepulchral tones learned during long years as a Shakespearean actor," is how LIFE magazine (May 26, 1958) described the host and the show.
The Daily Independent Journal (Feb. 7, 1958) revealed much more information about the new host's debut and take over of Nightmare Theater: "Fans of the 'Nightmare' TV show have been startled the last two weeks to see a new face - and a bearded one at that. It belongs to Terrence Sr., father of Terrence Jr. who has been acting as host of the horror program on KRON. Senior stirred his creaky bones and left the comfortable dampness of his mummy's cage, just to return to life and see how Junior was making out with the television audience. During the course of a chat last Wednesday, Pop learned Son was doing fine, only he was getting a bit tired and and could use a little vacation. Now, you'll be seeing Senior on 'Nightmare' every Wednesday while Junior rests his creaky joints in the family tomb. Oh, yes, Terrence Sr. is really John Barclay of Sausalito, whose mannerisms on the air are faintly reminiscent of Boris Karloff. Barclay has had a long career as an... opera singer, dramatic actor and radio-TV writer [and] producer." The films shown were from the Shock! package.

Ghosts from the Past !!!
Back when I attended the Los Angeles Theatre Academy, I was often typecast as a young, goody-two-shoes. At the time, that didn't sit well with me since I was seeking to broaden my skills and range as an actor. However, many of the roles I was given were wonderful parts nonetheless. And what was really cool about portraying the role of Edmond Pendergast in "Good Morning Miss Vickers" was that he was a ghost. It was a sign of things to come as I now play the ghoulish television horror host Sicko-Psychotic on the Super Shock Show. What I remember about this production was that I enjoyed working with writer-director Stephen Levi... and oddly enough, I recall much of the stage blocking. The play was published by Samuel French, Inc. and I was credited as Jimmy Childs in the publication. Actress Kristine Alexandria, who I remember fondly, played Ashley Manchester. --- Jim Childs

Vampire Flicks: A List
Because many silent pictures remain "lost" to us, there is no way of knowing with absolute certainty, which was the first vampire movie. Rumors have circulated over various possible titles. However, most have eventually turned out to be erroneous and unearthed data either identifies the "vampire" in question as simply a synonym for a femme fatale or a murderous madman. Although unlikely, The Secrets of House No. 5 (1912) is a Russian film that is speculated by some to have featured a vampire of the undead variety. Unfortunately, there is no existing evidence for this "lost" Pathé short to validate such a claim. Adding to the confusion of identifying the earliest vampire movies are the filmmakers' depictions of demons and succubi that have appeared in silent shorts possessing vampire-like qualities. Even today, the tradition of merging various monster myths continues on. Indeed, zombies, werewolves, demons, ghosts, witches, mummies, plant monsters, succubi, and even extraterrestrials have been utilized by directors and screenwriters alike in an effort to create their own hybrid vampire creatures. As familiar as the Gothic and nocturnal vampire is to us, by no means have the same rules applied to all cinematic vampires over the decades. Not all of these undead creatures sleep in graves or coffins. Nor are they all affected by garlic, crucifixes, silver bullets, wooden stakes, or sunlight. Some cast shadows and reflections, while others do not turn into bats or wolves, sport fangs, or even drink human blood! With such drastic alterations to vampire lore, one can't help but ponder "what constitutes a vampire?" Most vampire fans might agree that the cinematic creature being represented as a "vampire" should display two or more attributes to the vampire myths that are identifiable around the world. Whether they are seductive, bloodsucking creatures of the night or hideous and vicious monsters of the supernatural, Sicko-Psychotic has put together a list of vampire flicks for die-hard vampire lovers everywhere. Because volumes of vampire movies are produced every year, famous vampires, such as Barnabas Collins, Blacula, Blade, Carmilla, Commoneltha the Vampire Lady, Count Dracula, Count Orlok the Nosferatu, The Count "von Count", Elizabeth Bathory the Blood Countess, Grandpa Munster, Lilith, Mr. Vampire, Vampira, and Vampire TV Shows will soon have their own category listing in this BLOG, if they don't already do so.

Mad & Wicked Magicians: Film & TV List
Mad and mischievous magicians have been appearing (and disappearing) in movies since 1896 when the godfather of trick filmmaking, Georges Méliès, first made a woman vanish and then reappear as a skeleton right before our very eyes. The short curiosity piece was called Escamotage d'une Dame au Théâtre Robert Houdin; or, The Vanishing Lady, and it launched the infant motion picture business into the realm of fantastic spectacles and celluloid entertainment through fictionalized, and often amazing, scenarios. Compiled here is a list of evil and criminal stage magicians on film and television. From the crooked con, villainous murderer, to the completely insane, these unethical illusionists have thrilled, chilled, and shocked us with magic, murder, and mayhem for many decades. The following list proves just how popular these wicked villains truly are.
